Background Information
What type of make or model of vehicle are you going to
utilize with your carrier?
Does it have a Receiver hitch installed already?
Do you know the size or Class of Hitch?
1. A Class 2 Hitch is most commonly used on Passenger
vehicles. It has an interior
Diameter opening of approximately 1.25 inches with an approx
max tongue weight of
350 LBS. NOTE: BE aware that a Class 1 hitch has the same
diameter as class 2
But will only hold 100 to 200 lbs. It will damage the
vehicle and their carrier
/power chair
2. A Class 3 Hitch is most commonly used on
Trucks/SUV's. It has an interior
Diameter opening of approximately 2 inches with an approx
max tongue weight of
500 LBS.
Do you know the height of your hitch?
The Optimum hitch height for most power chairs/scooters is
between 12 to 14 inches. This allows the carrier to be
higher than most road grade issues (potholes/steep
driveways) and low enough for most power chairs to climb the
ramp without high centering.
Do you know the weight of your Power
chair/Scooter with batteries?
If Not, What model is it?
Do you know the dimensions of it?
If not, I will look it up.
Carriers
All EZ Carriers are constructed in the USA and made of
steel. They have a Baked on (400 Degree) powder coated
Finish.
We offer 4 models of Manual Carriers and 1
Electric Model.
All Manual models have a platform dimension of 27.5" x 50"
with a 3 inch security rail with holes laser cut for
tie-down straps. The attached ramp is 27" wide x 42" long
and secures via a spring loaded pin. All models are
available in either a Class 2 or 3 hitch sizes.
EZC-1
This model has a fixed platform; it does not fold up, when
not in use. Additionally, since it is fixed (Carrier welded
directly to the stinger, part that goes into the hitch), the
height of your hitch will be the height of your carrier.
(I.e. 15 inches hitch height; platform will be 15 inches
from the ground. It is important to ensure a 12 to 14 inch
hitch height with this model)
EZC-2
This model folds up when not in use. This model allows for
the purchase of additional stingers/Flip-ups for use on
multiple vehicles, as long as power chair does not exceed
weight limits. (I.e. one vehicle has a class 3 hitch and one
has a class 2 hitch. To change, you must detach one bolt/nut
and re-secure on other vehicle.
EZC-3-Drop
This model folds up when not in use. It is for Vehicles with
hitch heights above 14" (primarily trucks/SUV's/vans) it
allows 6 inches of downward adjustment in 1' increments.
This removes the need for Extended Bi-Fold ramps by allowing
a proper ramp incline for most power chairs
EZC-3-Rise
This model folds up when not in use. It is for Vehicles with
hitch heights below 10" (primarily mid-size sedans) it
allows 6 inches of upward adjustment in 1' increments.
NOTE: vehicles with a class 2 hitch size are limited to a
MAXIMUM WEIGHT OF Power chair weight of 140 LBS.
This is due to Leverage/stress factor on the hitch.
Things to watch out for with manual
carriers
Some vehicles have issues in regards to hitches being
installed and utilizing a carrier. They are Compact and sub
compact cars like Toyota Camay's, Dodge Neon's, Plymouth
Breezes, Chrysler Concords and Dodge Intrepid. At EZ
Carrier, we advise them of the issue and advise them that it
may not work on their vehicle.
Class 1 hitches are the same stinger size as class 2's. It's
not the carrier or hitch that will break when it is
overloaded. It is the vehicles frame which will bend or
break.
EZL-1 Electric Lift Carrier
18 inches of lift, with 9 inches of manual adjustment to
ensure proper height of lift on your vehicle. Platform
dimensions are 27.5" x 50" with 3 inch side rail. You can
load your power chair from either side of vehicle. The
maximum weight capacity of the lift is determined by your
hitch size. A lift in a Class 3 hitch will hold a power
chair of approximately 300 lbs. A lift in a class 2 will
hold a power chair of approximately 240 lbs. The lift has a
light for night time loading. An additional feature includes
a manual hand crank in case of battery failure.
Electronic Installation requirements
10 gauge wire ran directly from your battery with a 20 amp
inline fuse. Attach a quick connect to the wire (male/female
wire attachment). Place the opposite connector on the wire
from the lift motor. The motor has a fuse already; this
ensures protection for both your vehicle and the lift. The
lift is designed to be self grounding, however, due to the
thickness of the powder coat when it is initially put on, it
may require the use of the auxiliary ground wire. The lift
is affixed with a ground screw on the passenger side of the
lift. If a good ground is not established because of the
powder coating, run a wire from the grounding screw to your
vehicles frame or hitch until the powder coating allows for
a good ground.
Shipping
The EZL-1 is shipped in three Packages via Fed EX. The first
is the Lift Assembly. E second is the Motor/Instruction and
Hardware Pack. The final one is the Platform. They are
shipped on the same day; however, it is not unusual to
receive one or two packages on one day and the final one the
next day.
